Topic: CARLOS GARDEL Write
Mr. Carlos Rouco Teysera
Posted January 10, 2008.
Sir: I got tired. I apologize to bother you Mr. Director, but I was exhausted. The letter from Mr. Ricardo Costa Colturi, published in his newspaper on 27 December 2007 with the heading "Carlos Gardel" in response to correspondents and Spina Mr Stephen Rawson, members' Center Studies Gardelians " of Buenos Aires, filled my patience. Not because Mr. Costa Colturi not right but because the subject has passed me.
What issue? He who peels Gardel was Uruguayan whether French or ignoring aspects of the discussion at this point I find stunning. Books
made seriously, investigative reports, testimony, arguments are diverse, official documents and interviews Gardel himself, have not helped. Argentina's response to these outrages has been, mostly, anger and aggression.
At this point in the disquisitions understand that, with no less important where you were born, what happened to have more relevance is know the reason why the Argentines who are interested in the point, prefer to support French nationality and not the Uruguayan .
It is incomprehensible that an emblem like Gardel tango, you give it to France when it would be logical, understandable and undeniable to the world that, if Argentina's clearly not, accept his birth in Uruguay, shared birthplace of the tango, and Therefore, in contrast to some evidence - only some of the many put forward - should the Argentines, hastily, take it as certain, so as to shelter the memory of Gardel and his work in the natural environment that gave birth to tango.
I am aware that I was not the one that I was born this concern, but in the material at my disposal, I have found works that take as central to an analysis. It entered the event as a curiosity, but does not seek to explain at length why it happens.
For example, Ricardo Ostuni, being vice president of the Academia del Tango de Buenos Aires, he asks in his book "Return of Gardel:" Why give France a purely River Plate idol? "He asked but no responses adventure.
And just before, as with the example of Gardel, is justified to use the term "River Plate" so often used by Argentines to absorb any drop of talent Uruguayan winner in Argentina. And not forgetting that both genes geopolitical condition influences the behavior and personality of human beings (and their successes and failures) regardless of the environment in which they operate, it is clear that there are numerous examples in many branches of Uruguayans who have excelled in Argentina and contributed to its culture and civilization (and vice versa, fortunately for us) without fanfare or untimely responses, comfortably sheltered under the term "River Plate."
So why this exception Gardel? I can not explain.
And so I ask if there are any behavior specialist man explain to me the cause of anger and loss of patience that mark the Argentine cares to defend the thesis of French Gardel and systematically refute every argument and claiming his birth document Uruguay.
Uruguay
What is the cradle not appropriate for an artist like Gardel? What can make a kind of disgrace for a bard of his level compared to the intellectual garb would be French? No. It is not acceptable, since the crests that adorned and decorated clearly the Uruguayan intellect in the field of activity that you choose. And on the issue before us Are not Uruguayan tango, milonga, and vals known around the world namely "La Cumparsita", "The Stab" and "From the Soul" ?.
So is not it more practical, convenient and logical to pay attention to Carlos Gardel when he said repeatedly that he was Uruguayan, accept that the official documents that recorded their orientalism are true, and not complicate your life in a discussion the rest of the world looks with astonishment (including the French, not explained how they took the lottery if you never played) if not sarcastically?
Would not it be silly, devoid of any economic interest in donating to France voices declared world heritage by UNESCO and which looks from the hand of Maria Callas, Caruso, etc..? I accept apply the term "River Plate" by varied and compelling reasons driving the same Gardel, and propose that the Argentine and Uruguayan congenial to Aldo Mazzuchelli when commenting on the book mentioned Ostuni, quite lucidly expressed:
"It matters because the origin of Gardel Gardel's image, its value in communication and cultural significance - which includes, of course, its origin - is more than strictly artistic value. Rate Gardel and feel itself (emphasis mine) implies own values and sense also a mixture of symbolic values that icon brings Gardel. "Recognizing that it is easily carried Uruguayan hand to spread it " River Plate " because, after all, as Mazzuccheli end, the tango is a matter of banks, and every river has two.
Anyway. Could any thinking student of people bothering to explain these questions and help as much glory fan of Argentina and the proven generosity recognizer for compatriots who chose the option of Argentina, to dispel my confusion? And please explain to me why the thesis are frowning Uruguay to Argentine and not the French!
